Model/philosophy: Capitol School’s mission is to provide an enriched learning environment where children with speech, language, and learning differences can reach their full potential and develop skills necessary to succeed in future educational settings. Capitol School offers therapy-based, low-ratio, individualized school programs led by speech-language professionals or special educators.
Special features: Most of Capitol School’s students have a diagnosed language/learning difference, and up to a third are typically developing children who benefit from the language-rich, small-group setting while acting as peer models for language-impaired classmates. This inclusive model benefits both types of students as curriculum goals are tailored to each child’s individual needs and focus on language development, which is fundamental for early learning.
Tuition: $12,150–$14,700 per year, depending on the grade level (paid in monthly installments), $125 application fee, $75 annual registration fee; assistance available for families earning below Austin-area moderate income levels.
