We invite your organization to participate in Alt Ed Austin’s first annual

Alt Ed Austin is proud to bring our community's attention to the abundance and diversity of unconventional learning opportunities we are so fortunate to enjoy in the Austin area. In addition to information booths hosted from noon to 4pm by innovative student-centered schools, preschools, and other programs serving both kids and adults, the Festival of Learning will feature popular food vendors, fun activities for all ages, and family-friendly entertainment on an outdoor stage, capped off with a teen music showcase after the school fair winds down, from 4pm to 5pm.

All of this and more is free for the public to attend and affordable for small schools and organizations to participate in. A portion of your booth fees will help pay for a strategic advertising and media campaign to build strong attendance, as well as carefully designed signage to make sure folks find their way to the various sections of the festival and to each of the participating programs that might interest them.

We are pleased to announce that we have secured an excellent festival venue: the City of Austin's beautiful and expansive Fiesta Gardens building, plaza, and grounds, which overlook Lady Bird Lake just a few blocks east of downtown. Free parking is plentiful in adjacent public lots and on surrounding streets. Our event coincides with the final day of this year's East Austin Studio Tour (EAST), when families from all over the metro area descend on this neighborhood to wander the streets on foot or two wheels in search of art; we welcome this happy synergy!

Register soon. Booth spaces are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

A few notes to keep in mind before you register:

  • If you are representing a school for students at the elementary, middle, and/or high school levels (or their rough equivalents), even if it also serves pre-K learners, please register for an indoor School Booth.

  • If your program is for preschoolers only (or primarily), please sign up for an outside Preschool Booth.

  • If you represent an adult learning program or any other non-school educational or family-support organization, please sign up for an outdoor Special Program Booth.

  • If you're not sure where your program belongs, or if you'd like to have booths in more than one section of the festival, please contact Teri to discuss the options before registering.

  • On the day of the event, please arrive between 11am and 11:30am to set up your booth, and be ready to interact with attendees starting at noon.

  • The indoor school fair officially ends at 4pm; participants should finish breaking down and clearing the space by 4:45pm.

  • Outdoor booths may stay open during the teen showcase, which will take place on the outdoor bandstand, or may choose to start breaking down anytime between 4pm and 5pm; everyone must be cleaned up and off the premises by 5:30pm.

  • You will find more specific details for participating organizations on the registration forms and in follow-up emails later in the fall.

We can't wait for November 18 and hope you will join us at the Alt Ed Austin Festival of Learning!
