Job Description & Qualifications: The Whole Life Learning Center is a progressive, private PK–8 school in Austin, Texas, with an innovative, holistic approach to education. WLLC has a dedicated staff that serves an amazing community of around 100 families. We are a community committed to environmental sustainability, social justice, personal growth, and empowerment.

We are situated on a beautiful property with gardens, animals, and an expansive outdoor space for creating, learning, and playing. WLLC is growing into its ninth year and is seeking the right person for an integral position for our thriving school and community.

WLLC Mentors have a radical respect for the child. Our primary role is to support the holistic growth of all Whole Life Learners. Mentors are expected to develop curriculum and continuously create an enriching environment through collaboration with directors, mentors, learners and parents.

Lead Mentor Expectations:

  • Create and submit curriculum outlines by September 1

  • Be present for morning and afternoon meetings

  • Support Specialty Teachers during afternoon classes (when you don’t have a planning period)

  • Keep detailed notes about your learners

  • Co-Facilitate one Parent Circle each semester

  • Communicate weekly with parents about all the cool things your class is doing

  • With your teaching team, plan at least one field trip and/or special guest per semester

  • Use narrative observation, portfolio development, and school-provided scope and sequence assessment to create learner assessments each semester

  • Attend staff trainings, planning week, and parent/child orientations in August

  • Maintain an organized and inspiring classroom environment

  • Schedule parent/learner meetings each semester and maintain availability for parent communication, including during pickup time each day

  • Initiate weekly check-ins with your team

  • Give guidance to and initiate monthly check-ins with classroom parent(s)

  • Prepare curriculum with consideration to all learning styles

  • Communicate ongoing classroom and supply needs to office

  • Participate in self and peer evaluations

  • Attend and help facilitate closing ceremony at end of school year

  • Organize and pack up classroom items and help reset campus in preparation for summer camps

Expectations for All Team Members and Faculty:

  • Ensure that all learners are always supervised and safe

  • Take time for conflict resolution whenever necessary

  • Work to ensure that every learner is challenged and no one feels lost

  • Attend seasonal planning & review meetings in August (during training), November, January, and April

  • Support learners in creating an “artifact” for their portfolios for each unit covered in classes

  • Honor the importance of timeliness

  • Keep an impeccable space

  • Commit to clear and direct communication with WLLC team and with parents

  • Please communicate any need for support to directors (for your space, materials, daily flow, emotional process, conflict, etc.)

  • Practice confidentiality in all matters pertaining to learners, families, and your colleagues

  • Attend community events

Compensation: ~$38K or $3,175/mo x 12 months + heath care stipend and tuition remission for one child

Start Date: Team Training starts August 19, 2019. First day of classes is September 3, 2019.
