K–1 Lead Mentor/Teacher Needed at Independent, Holistic PreK-thru-8th-Grade School in South Austin

Job Description & Qualifications: Whole Life Learning Center is an independent private school that takes an individualized and holistic approach to education, with emphases on social-emotional learning, ecology, social justice, and project-based learning. With our roots in Montessori, Waldorf, and other non-traditional, “non-industrial” approaches to education, we chart an independent path through an emergent curriculum that features both structure and learner choice. We have five multi-age classrooms, and we are seeking a lead mentor for our combined K–1 class. This mentor will have an assistant; there will be between 12 and 18 learners in the class; and the learners will also have at least one “specialty” class (art, music, eco-studies, etc.) per day, led by a specialty mentor. Responsibilities of the lead mentor will include lesson planning and delivery, parent communication, creating an inspiring classroom environment, and participation in school events and staff meetings and trainings. General workday is 8:15am to 4pm, with staff meetings held roughly every other Wednesday until 5:30pm.

Compensation: $47,000 for a 10-month work year. Benefits include full tuition remission for one child, 50% tuition remission for additional children; group health insurance premiums covered at 50% for the employee (at cost for family members); all standard school holidays off with pay (including a week-long spring break, a full week at Thanksgiving, usually 2.5 weeks for winter break, etc.); retirement plan, including limited matching contributions; and membership in an amazing community of lifelong learners.

Job Description & Qualifications:

Overview: Trauma Free Tree Family Wellness and Learning Center is seeking a passionate and dedicated teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in education and a commitment to fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment for young learners. This role involves engaging with children, supporting their developmental needs, and implementing effective teaching strategies that promote learning and growth. STEM emphasis is preferred. The learning center will use K–12 online accredited curriculum, along with project- and play-based learning. The learning center will provide education and care for students grades 3–7.

Duties: Role will be 8am–4pm Monday–Friday.

  • Implement age-appropriate lesson plans that align with early childhood education standards in conjunction with fully accredited learning software that will be utilized at the center.

  • Foster a safe and supportive classroom environment that encourages exploration and learning.

  • Utilize behavior management techniques to promote positive interactions among students.

  • Communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff to support child welfare and development.

  • Observe and assess children's progress, providing feedback and support for their individual needs.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to create a cohesive educational program that addresses the needs of all students.

Experience:

  • A degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred.

  • Experience working with children in a classroom or childcare setting is essential.

  • Knowledge of childhood development principles and early intervention strategies is highly desirable.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with children, parents, and staff.

  • Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively while promoting a positive learning environment.
